As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 10-point Times New Roman font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Article types

The international journal of sustainable lighting publishes the following types of papers:

  • Original papers: dealing with original research findings and new developments relevant to the scope of the journal.
  • Reviews: Reviews on a recent progress on light or lighting will be published from both invited experts and by direct submission.

Preparation of a manuscript

  • Please use a word template for this journal when preparing your manuscript. If the word template cannot be downloaded, please contact Executive Editor, Geun Young Yun, at gyyun@khu.ac.kr.

Cover letter

When submitting a manuscript, a cover letter that addresses the novelty and significance of the work should be included.
Each manuscript should contain:

  • Title page: This include the title, names and affiliations of the authors, postal and email address.
  • Key words: For indexing purposes, a list of 3-6 key words is essential.
  • Abstract: An abstract of 150-250 words is necessary, which includes the aim, methods, results, and finding of the research.
  • Introduction: The background and aim of the research is described. The introduction should include key existing literature relevant to appropriate work.
  • Methods: Research methods and any statistical tests are given here. The Methods should provide the full descriptions of the techniques and the protocol for the investigations.
    Results: Describe results of measurements/analyses/testing/survey used, with appropriate numerical and graphical support, for the study. Always use SI units.
  • Discussion: The Discussion should explore the theoretical and practical significance of the findings of the research and its relevance to existing studies.
    Conclusion: Achievements of the study are given here.
  • Acknowledgement: Give an acknowledgement of the funding source.

Reference style

  • The international journal of sustainable lighting follows the American Psychology Association (APA) reference style. Identify references in the text in order in square brackets. The list of references should consist of only those references cited in the text.

Open Access

  • All International Journal of Sustainable Lighting (IJSL) content is Open Access, meaning it is accessible online without fee under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0).  For any reuse, redistribution, or reproduction of a work, users must clarify the license terms under which the work was produced. Neither the text itself nor the ideas presented in it may be used for commercial purposes.
  • There is neither publication fee nor submission charge for this journal. The author(s) holds the copyright without restrictions.

Peer review process

  • The international journal of sustainable lighting adopts a single blind review system, which the names of the reviewers are withheld from the submitting author. An editorial decision is generally made within 4-6 weeks of submission.
  • The Editors reserve the right to reject any manuscript that is not completely legible or does not conform to the standards given in the Submission guidelines.
  • All papers are independently reviewed by at least two peer reviewers. The reviewers fill in due time a standard evaluation form. The reviewers' suggestions or requests for modifications are anonymously communicated to the authors. The final acceptance of the paper is conditional on authors addressing the anonymous referee comments.
